Check a used puzzle before you buy

Used puzzles are a great deal, unless a piece is missing. Run through this first.

  • Look for tape or a seal. A box that was never opened is a safe bet.
  • Read the box and the price tag. Some stores and sellers write "complete" or "counted" on it.
  • Shake it gently. A box that feels nearly empty may be short.
  • Open it if you can. Look for loose pieces of a different puzzle mixed in.
  • Check the brand. Many makers send replacement pieces, sometimes free.
  • Ask about returns before you pay.

Short a piece anyway? Here's how to get a missing piece from each brand.
